The Joint EC-ESA Earth System Science initiative is a partnership between the European Commission’s Research and Innovation Directorate (DG-RTD) and the European Space Agency (ESA). It aims to advance Earth System Science in response to global challenges by aligning scientific activities. During a workshop organised in November 2023 at ESA’s Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN), Frascati, Italy, Gemma Kulk from Plymouth Marine Laboratory presented the SCOPE project. She, together with Roberto Sabia from ESA, also chaired a session on Ocean Carbon and led the discussion session that resulted in recommendations to the EC-ESA Earth System Science Initiative.
